This picture to me, captures the essence of Rita Dove's poem American Smooth. The dancers in the painting look so graceful and Rita Dove does a great job in her poem of painting a mental image of two graceful dancers, moving as one. My favorite part of the poem is when she describes how the dancers achieved flight. To me, this painting captures that image.
